The noble grape of Portugal, Touriga Nacional, meets the noble grape of Spain, Tempranillo (known in Portugal as Tinta Roriz) in this typical Portuguese red wine blend. Traditionally the two varieties were planted intermingled in the Portuguese vineyards, producing delightful aromatic and textured red wines in the resulting "field blend". The traditional field blend is also the base for the Portuguese ports - vintage, tawny, colheita and late bottled vintage styles - which have been fortified during fermentation. 

Tempranillo gives an upfront burst of cherry characteristics, that dominate the blend in the first few years and mellowing into chocolate as it matures. The Touriga Nacional takes over as the flavour engine at about 3 years of age, contributing spicy sweet and sour cherry and plum notes, maturing into chocolate and almond. typically we find the Touriga Nacional drinks best when a crust has deposited on the bottle.
